Beckett deserves better treatment

I don't know Mr. Beckett and don't necessarily agree with all his politics or support his candidacy for a Town Council seat, but I find the inordinate focus on his beret to border on the absurd!

I realize that those who have written so passionately about Mr. Beckett's beret very well may have their own ulterior motives in their attempts to publicly embarrass and humiliate him for wearing his commercially purchased beret, but I think a man who has risked his life on behalf of this country while serving two tours of duty in Vietnam deserves better!

To compare the actions of Mr. Beckett to those of illegal aliens was indeed a low blow and an insult to his honorable service to this country.
