I’m so sick of John McCain putting down Jimmy Carter.

I e-mailed letters Saturday to the Culpeper Wal-Mart and the Fredericksburg Costco concerning their shortage of handicapped parking.

Are congratulations in order for the Culpeper County School Board?

Please explain your criteria for publishing editorial cartoons. Saturday’s depiction of the Supreme Court’s ruling on handguns being well received in Virginia was highly offensive.

The members of the School Board who voted to spend our money so frivolously (paying Dr. Cox potentially for three more years) are the same members who did not vote to start work on updates and upgrades at CCHS because there was not enough money in the budget.

If Mr. Cox had done something wrong, it would have been far cheaper to fire him and not have to pay the exorbitant salary and perks for the next three years.

I was wondering why on the Virginia State Website, vdh.state.va.us/oems, why they are not recognizing the Co. 11 rescue squad if they are allowed to open back up.

It’s really great that there has been funding given to both shelters, but my concern is why was a picture of the SAFE house published?

The Knights of Columbus, Council 6328 thanks the many individuals, businesses and organizations that contributed time, resources and money to make our recent KOVAR campaign a great success.

James Clements’ June article about Congressman Eric Cantor’s pledge to not earmark was misguided (“Cantor’s no earmark pledge”).

New “no standing or stopping” signs are being placed along James Madison Highway. I would like to know why the drivers of vehicles are being penalized for stopping and not the people loitering (“New signs meant to deter motorists, not pedestrians,” June 15”)?

Like Mr. Calhoun wrote in his letter to the editor, (“Virginia will win Culpeper, state in November,” June 18)  I, too, respected Sen. McCain eight years ago. 

A series of scandals about the actions of some Republicans while in office has brought embarrassment at home and hatred abroad. 

In his June 5 letter to the editor, “Bush administration has failed our troops,” James Sanford says that President George Bush puts our sons and daughters in harm’s way because he is arrogant.

Around 5 p.m. on June 18, an individual struck a dog on Main Street here with his or her vehicle.

I certainly hope that before an exhorbitant price is paid for a worn out industrial building the police chief and some of the officers that will have to deal on an everyday basis with old Brandy Road have the opportunity to add their input (“Police station nearing reality,” June 11).

As many of you know, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 330 in Culpeper distributed poppies around town during Memorial Day weekend.

In response to your issue of the week, I expect Sen. McCain to carry Culpeper County by a significant margin and the Commonwealth of Virginia by a narrow margin in the fall.

I wish to extend my thanks to all of those who attended the inaugural “State of Culpeper” event on May 20.

Dominion Power owes local residents and businesses an apology and an explanation for the inconvenience and loss of productivity.

This is in response to the Robert Legge’s column “Kicking our oil addiction” June 5.

I would like to give my perspective on the consequences of the recent power outages.

The town has elected to raise our electricity rates 12 percent, but the service we receive has gotten terrible.

While I have many reasons for feeling certain that the Angler sewer and water proposal is a bad idea, most have already been discussed in your paper.

If the news report presented on national television Wednesday accurately states the proposal made by President Bush, then I pray that someone will hand him a copy of Col. David Crockett’s “Not Yours to Give.”

I was rather astonished at how upset Mr. Hrebik was in his June 9 letter to the editor (“Phrase was not appropriate for use in story on Alaska”).
