The Culpeper County High School Academic Boosters Club wishes to thank the Star-Exponent for the Academic Spotlight articles they publish every Tuesday of the school's calendar year.
The CSE does this to highlight deserving, well-rounded students who strive for excellence in our public school system.
Also, thank you to Becky Jen-kins, who "spotlights" the students' names on the Second Bank and Trust marquee downtown on Tuesdays. We also wish to thank high school contacts, principal Jeffrey Dietz, Richard Lassiter (set up the ABC link on the web site), Sue Shuman (distributes award certificates) and Ann Boyd (posts the winners within the high school).
Let me explain the format students go through to be considered for this award.
On their assigned days seniors, juniors and sophomores obtain an application, either from the school library or from the CCHS Web site, and within five days return their forms for consideration. The students use their student ID to maintain anonymity from the secret panel of judges.
From that point, 12 students are chosen from each grade based on their academics and involvement in community, clubs and sports.
In the spring, the winners from each grade are eligible to submit an updated application with current year awards and involvement to be considered for the Spotlight of the Year Award. These three winners receive a plaque, certificate and a $50 check from the Academic Booster Club.
Because we will have two high schools next year our winner format will change. The CSE has agreed to "spotlight" 18 seniors, 12 juniors and 8 sophomores from each high school. We are thankful for their continued support highlighting the students' accomplishments.
We are now at a critical time in organizing a new Academic Spotlight Committee to represent Eastern View High School and its students. We welcome any parent or guardian to help with this as well as receptions and awards ceremonies. These students need your support.
Please attend a meeting on March 13 at 7 p.m. in the conference room next to the library and/or May 15 at CCHS or contact Careen Angel at 937-2018.
