West Fairfax Supervisor Steve Nixon is relieved it's over.
Nixon, a Republican won about 66 percent of the vote in his district with 905 votes. He will start his second term on the board in January. Democratic opponent Richard Vento won about 34 percent of the vote with 461 votes.
Nixon said it's been a tough campaign and after a victory party at Niko's Restaurant Tuesday night, he was looking forward to being able to "just relax."
But not for long - he has his regular board meeting today at 10 a.m. He said the BOS has made "big strides" in the past four years and he would continue to work hard.
"I'm feeling very humbled that the voters overwhelmingly put me back in office," he said. "I will try to do more of the same and move the county forward."
About 34 percent of the 4,011 registered West Fairfax voters cast their ballots Tuesday, but Vento said he was not disappointed with the turnout.
"I think that's about what came out in the last election," he said.
Vento, who stayed at home with a few friends on election night, said he could not answer whether he would consider another run in four years.
"Steve worked very hard and did a good job campaigning," he said. "And I congratulate him."
For those who voted for Vento, Nixon said he would like to talk to them to find out what they would like him to do differently.
"I've talked to some people and I think there is always room for improvement," Nixon said. "And I am willing to listen."
