Culpeper County has gained 1,672 new voters since February’s presidential primary, bringing the total number of registered voters here to 26,541 as of Friday.
“I was expecting Culpeper to go over 27,000 voters,” said county voting registrar Michele White. “However, we still have Monday to get through.”
Monday is the last day to register to vote. In order to be eligible, White said voters must register in person by 5 p.m. at their local registrars office. Mail in voter registrations must also be postmarked by Monday. White said voters may also download a registration application from sbe.virginia.gov and fax it to Culpeper’s office at 825-8454, but the original application must also be mailed and will be kept on file.
If anyone is not sure if they’re registered to vote, White said residents may also check their status on the state Web site by clicking the “Online Services” link, then clicking “Verify Your Voter Registration Status.”
In the meantime, White says that there’s been a steady increase in absentee voting. “We’ve had close to 50 people vote in person here at the office,” she said, adding that she expects to mail another 250 absentee ballots this week.
Finally, for anyone who might have difficulty coming to vote absentee in person during the week, White says the office will be open the two Saturdays before the election to accommodate those people as well. The last day to vote absentee in person is Nov. 1.
