The notion of Rep. Eric I. Cantor for vice president, which started as musing by conservative commentators in Richmond and Washington, is now a boomlet, complete with Web site: EricCantorforVP.com.

Cantor, R-7th, is No. 3 in the House GOP Caucus. That makes him one of the biggest cheerleaders on Capitol Hill for Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee.

The Web site is the brainchild of a Washington lobbyist, Beau Phillips.

“Congressman Cantor seemed like the perfect candidate,“ Phillips said. “Virginia’s going to be a critical, if not literally the most critical, battleground state of this election.“

Ray Allen Jr., a senior adviser to Cantor, said the site is “not something we’ve been involved with or fanned the flames at all. But it is flattering that people think so highly of him.“ The Web site says that rather than wait for the McCain team to announce a running mate, “we have decided to provide people with an opportunity to join a campaign for a pro-life, pro-family, pro-market, pro-military, dynamic, young Republican-Conservative Eric Cantor.“

The Web site also includes an online petition that urges McCain to select Cantor, 45, a Henrico County resident who was first elected to the House in 2000.
Cantor isn’t the only Virginian in this year’s veepstakes.

On the Democratic side, there are Gov. Timothy M. Kaine and Sen. Jim Webb. Former Gov. Mark R. Warner, a Democrat running for the U.S. Senate, has removed himself from consideration.

Olympia Meola and Jeff E. Schapiro are staff writers for the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Just to back up CW’s statement.  During Cantor’s last re-election run, a times artical stated that Cantor voted along party lines 97% of the time.  I don’t care what your view is, D or R, a one sided view is not going to be the best option.  You have to be willing to listen to the other side and take the best parts of both.

Ah, Mrs. Semper Fi Mom ... or shall I call you “SFM?“ It’s great of you to make assumptions about my party leanings, my preferences about Kool-Aid, or what soap is used to brainwash me based on my little six word comment. You must be - in addition to a proud mom of someone serving our country - a member of the psychic friend’s network. That being said, I applaud Mr. Cantor’s professional demeanor, his courtesy and that of his staff, and his integrity. Look up Rep. Cantor’s voting record and see what he does and does not support - that’s what we need to look at if he’s Vice President. (Hint - he votes with his party a majority of the time - but breaks with his party quite a bit.) Recently he voted against agriculture programs, and higher education support, just as two examples.

Have either of you to (CR and CW) ever interacted with Mr. Cantor and/or his office staffers?  I have, several times.  Each time, I was treated courtesly, my request/issue listened to attentively, and then there was always a response/resolution.  I may not have agreed - but he’s one of the few that actually listen and respond.  That is what a representative is supposed to do, right?  Listen to We The People and work with us?  I care more about that, than drinking any party’s kool aid and be brainwashed by party mantra.

Some of you folks are so caught up in some political frenzy - you take the human component out completely and base everything on race or party line.
