Organizers of an annual black-tie event are relying on community donations to help support funding for higher education.

The Germanna Community College Educational Foundation is hosting its 15th annual Monte Carlo fundraiser at the Germanna Community College Daniel Technology Center Saturday to help raise money for the Germanna Guarantee Program Scholarship.

“The Monte Carlo event is the largest fundraising event to benefit Germanna Community College’s Guarantee Scholarship Program,” wrote Debbie Barrett, event co-chair, via e-mail last week.

The “Wild Wild West”-themed event will feature fantasy gambling, blackjack, Texas Hold ‘em, craps and a roulette table.

The scholarship program provides books and tuition for Germanna students who need financial support to attend the college.

Top grades are not a requirement. However, qualifiers must complete a degree or certification program at Germanna and maintain a 2.0 GPA.

This scholarship program is available to Germanna students in the college’s service region: Culpeper, Caroline, King George, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford counties and the city of Fredericksburg.

Germanna President David Sam said the Germanna Guarantee Program helps the school fulfill its mission of providing quality accessible and affordable education to local communities.

“The Monte Carlo event is both fun and vital in helping the Germanna Educational Foundation have the resources to support the GGP.”

“I am grateful to the many volunteers who give of their time and to the sponsors and attendees who together make this a success,” Sam added. “We invite all to have an enjoyable evening in a good cause.”

Education Foundation representatives urge area businesses and individuals to continue with their generous past support by contributing to this important cause.

Last year’s fundraiser raised more than $60,000 after expenses.

“Our goal this year is to surpass that and we can only achieve that goal with the help of area businesses and individuals,” Barrett said. “The community needs to remember we are educating our future leaders.”

The program assists hundreds of students each year.

Attendees will have an opportunity to win a trip to San Antonio as well as casino and jackpot prizes.

Heavy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will also be available for purchase.
