A South Carolina man faces two felony sex charges after police say he agreed to meet an investigator posing as a 14-year-old girl.
Michael Kent Pipkin, 25 of Goose Creek, was arrested by authorities in Clarke County on Wednesday, said Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Les Tyler.
Pipkin is charged in Culpeper County with using a computer to solicit a child and indecent liberties with a child. Tyler said Pipkin was also in possession of marijuana when he was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor in Clarke County for that offense.
Tyler said the charges stem from a three day operation based at the State Police’s Culpeper headquarters. During the operation, Tyler said State Police special agents encountered Pipkin in an online chat room, where he held sexually explicit exchanges online, then agreed to meet in person.
“He was within the valley area, but he wouldn’t set up to come to Culpeper,” Tyler said, so police set up a Clarke County meeting instead and arrested him there.
Pipkin is being held without bond at the Clarke-Frederick-Winchester Regional Jail, said Tyler. He is set to appear in General District Court July 16.
