Culpeper police are searching for a man suspected of shooting at another man in the parking lot of a convenience store late Monday afternoon.

Matthew Wade Fincham, 23, with a last known address in the 15000 block of Gen. A.P. Hill Avenue, faces five charges in connection with the incident, said town spokesman Wally Bunker.

Police say they were called to the parking lot of Westside Grocery at 519 Sperryville Pike around 4:15 p.m. for a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, police said witnesses told them that Fincham and the unidentified 37-year-old victim, who apparently knew each other, began arguing.

Fincham then allegedly went to his truck, pulled out a gun and fired several shots, none of which struck the victim. He then fled the area. No one was injured.

Fincham is 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs about 165 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes. Police said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Bunker said anyone with information should contact the Culpeper police at 727-3430 or Sgt. Andrew Terrill at 727-3444 ext. 511.

K&M victim of larceny
The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s help regarding a larceny that took place at K&M Lawn and Garden Equipment sometime between June 8 and 9.

Spokesman Sgt. Jim Fox said a 2005 14-foot black trailer was taken from the storage lot — located on Bus. 29 across the street from Walmart. The Virginia registration number for the trailer is 125333TL.

Two 2007 Hammerhead go-carts — one silver and the other blue — were also taken.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident contact Investigator Sarah Clements at 727-3444 ext. 116 or Crime Solvers at 727-0300.

A cash reward is available for information leading to an arrest in this incident, according to Fox.

If your son felt that there was an imminent threat to his life or limb than by all means he should have protected himself. But, he is responsible for the bullets that come out of that gun, therefore he needs to learn how to hit what he is shooting at. Otherwise, get in the truck and drive away and call the police. He needs to turn himself in.

If someone is driving around with a loaded gun in their car, how can they NOT be considered armed and dangerous. Regardless of what was said and by who, there is no excuse for opening fire on someone in a public place and putting other people in harms way. He could have just gotten in his car and left. If Mr. Fincham wants his story heard, he should turn himself in.

Unidentified VICTIM Ha-Ha…That makes me sick.My dear it was not a baseball bat but what is called a TIRE THUMPER. Never leaves home without it.How many assault and batteries/other charges has this Unidentified VICTIM been found guilty of or are still pending?I dont believe I have enough fingers and toes. It’s a shame when someone goes to shake your hand and say hi and in this day and age you get verbally assaulted and threatened with a tire thumper.Im sure that if the right people were asked for info the charges would be on both parts.

Wow - Butler’s and Finchams causing problems in Culpeper? No way - how sad, that I go to read the Small Town news and this is what is still going here.  Most people aren’t “bad kids” but then again, drugs and alcohol dont help, and when you resort to pulling a handgun or bat (?) to solve a dispute - you are darn skippy you need some “help”

What I would really like to know when the same people that keep getting in trouble with the law are the one’s that go unidentified in the news paper. You never get the whole truth and when did we start defended common criminals for their wrong doings. Lady I sorry to hear about your misfortunes with your son and hopefully he will get justice.

Gun = armed, shooting in an area where there are bystanders, dangerous. Was there a baseball bat involved in the incident? The paper made no mention of that.

I AM THE MOTHER OF MATTHEW WADE FINCHAM AND HE IS NO MEANS “ARMED AND DANGEROUS”......TELL ME IF SOMEONE COMES AFTER YOU WITH A BASEBALL BAT AND SAYS THAT “YOUR BIG BROTHER IS NOT HERE TO PROTECT YOU NOW” AND KNOWS THAT THE BROTHER HAS BEEN DEAD FOR 4 YEARS….I MOST CERTAINLY WOULD PROTECT MYSELF AS WELL. AND THE UNIDENTIFIED 37 YEAR OLD VICTIM, OH YES “SKINNY” WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE….....WELL WHY ARE CHARGES NOT BEING BROUGHT AGAINST HIM??????I REALLY THINK THAT INSTEAD OF COMMENTING ABOUT HOW BAD THINGS ARE WHY DOESNT THE LAW HELP SOME OF THESE PEOPLE THAT NEED IT . I AM NOT CONDONING ANYTHING NOR SAYING THAT IT IS RIGHT WHAT HE DID,BUT WE ARE TO PROTECT OURSELVES ARENT WE???? NO ONE WAS HURT…“SHAME”....THE LAW IS SUPPOSE TO PROTECT US BUT HEY ARE THEY DOING ANYTHING, NO ...WELL I CAN SAY MATTHEW IS NOT A BAD KID HE JUST HAS SOME PROBLEMS AND NEEDS SOME HELP. NOT TO BE ATTACKED BY SOMEONE UNTIL THEY HEAR HIS SIDE OF THE STORY…IF THEY DONT LIKE YOU THEY HAVE IT IN FOR YOU…...
