Police arrested a Culpeper man Sunday, accusing him of hitting another man with a car while trying to escape from a confrontation.
Dennis R. Sheppard, 44, of the 1800 block of Cranberry Lane, was arrested and charged with felony unlawful wounding, Lt. Chris Settle said.
According to Settle, the incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. in the 1800 block of Cranberry Lane. When officers arrived, the victim told police that he was attempting to take back a 1997 Mercury sedan he owned and from which he had allowed Sheppard to remove some personal belongings. Instead, Settle said, Sheppard got in the car and fled the scene, driving through the front yard and striking the victim and a tree in the process.
Police found Sheppard later that night and arrested him. He was in the Culpeper County Jail on $2,000 secured bond.
Settle said the victim received minor injuries, but refused medical treatment at the scene.
