Police arrested a Culpeper man Sunday, accusing him of hitting another man with a car while trying to escape from a confrontation.
Dennis R. Sheppard, 44, of the 1800 block of Cranberry Lane, was arrested and charged with felony unlawful wounding, said Lt. Chris Settle.
The incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. in the 1800 block of Cranberry Lane said Settle.
When officers arrived, the victim told police that Sheppard was attempting to take back a 1997 Mercury sedan he owned and that he had allowed Sheppard to remove some personal belongings. However, Settle said Sheppard got in the car instead and fled the scene, driving through the front yard and striking the victim and a tree in the process.
Police found Sheppard later that night and arrested him. He is charged with felony unlawful wounding, and was in the Culpeper County Jail on $2,000 secured bond.
Settle said the victim received minor injuries, but refused medical treatment at the scene.

The Culpeper County police department and the Star Exponent should be ashamed of themselves. This man’s picture should not be displayed in any news article. How is this arrest worthy of a news article. Many individuals get arrested and nothing is said in the newspaper. As always, Culpeper County is displaying racial bias towards African Americans yet AGAIN. As a former Culpeper resident, it saddens me that because the alleged victim was a white man, this article had to be written. The laws of this country makes a defendant innocent until proven guilty. All black citizens of Culpeper county need to be warned that Culpeper is not a place for African American men. I was one of the lucky African Americans to leave this discriminatory town for a better life. I strongly urge minorities to get out of Culpeper.
