A domestic disturbance escalated into an hour and a half standoff between a Culpeper man and authorities before ending peacefully early Monday morning police said.
Donald P. Hance, 51, of the 13300 block of Dutch Hollow Road, was arrested at the residence without further incident, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Jim Fox.
Hance faces a felony charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and two misdemeanors charges, assault and battery of a family or household member and reckless handling of a firearm.
Fox said police were called to the residence Sunday night just before 11 p.m. There, they met the victim who told police Hance had left the scene on foot. After speaking with the victim away from the scene, deputies returned to the scene with warrants.
However, Fox said Hance refused to come to the door and turned off the house lights. And because of specific threats made against law enforcement and the victim, Fox said the Joint Operations SWAT team, made up of both county and town officers, was called to the scene around 4:50 Monday morning.
Hance turned himself in around 6:30 a.m. without further incident Fox said.
Fox said Hance remained in jail Monday afternoon on $4,000 bond and is due in court May 14 at 8:30 a.m.
