A Circuit Court hearing set for convicted murderer Ricky Jovan Gray has been postponed until June 4, Culpeper County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gary Close said Monday morning.
Close did not cite a reason for the date change.
Gray, 30, is accused of killing 37-year-old Reva resident Sherri Warner on Dec. 18, 2005. Gray already faces a death sentence for killing a family of four in Richmond on Jan. 1, 2006.
The defense was expecting a ruling from the court on its request for information related to the cooperation of a witness for the prosecution.
At a March 12 hearing, Judge John R. Cullen ruled against the prosecution’s motion to allow testimony from Timothy Thomas, a Cumberland County prison inmate.
Thomas testified in a February hearing that Gray’s girlfriend, Ashley Baskerville, implicated Gray in Warner’s death. However, Cullen said the commonwealth had not established Thomas’s statements as reliable. Gray is also accused of killing Baskerville.
A 10-day jury trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 29.
