Culpeper police have charged four Stafford County men with mob assault after a fight erupted early Saturday morning outside the Depot.
Antwan Jaquez Morehead, 20, and John Quincy Richardson, 19, each face two charges of felony assault by mob and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Tierre Jammal Smith, 20, and Hershel Augustus Thurman, 18, were charged with two counts each of felony assault by mob.
According to the police report, the four men were accused of assaulting three Culpeper men. Culpeper police responded to a call shortly after 2 a.m. that a group of men was chasing someone down the railroad tracks, after which a group fled the scene in a gold Dodge Stratus.
“It’s possibly gang-related,” said Sgt. Andrew Terrill.
One victim, a 16-year-old boy, said he and the two other victims recognized the passengers in the Dodge because his friends had trouble with two of the suspects July 4, 2007.
According to the report, one of the victims said a group of 15 to 20 people followed two of the victims when they began to run. The 16-year-old victim fell and told police several people kicked and beat him; the two others were allegedly pistol-whipped. All three victims were treated and released at Culpeper Regional Hospital.
“Upon arrival, the scene was total chaos,” Officer Matt Borders wrote in his report, which also stated some witnesses were hysterical and crying, others uncooperative.
Police located several of the suspects in the Wal-Mart parking lot and charged Smith and Thurman. Stafford County deputies arrested Morehead and Richardson Monday.
They remain in the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
Last fall, three of the four suspects appeared at the Star-Exponent with their parents and other family members to defend themselves against accusations brought by a rival set of Culpeper teens, the alleged “HP” group, many of whom have criminal histories.
It is unclear if Saturday’s incident is related to that ongoing feud.

The only reason that these criminals were even caught is because the Town Police handled it. It’s well known that you get free rides in the county. Maybe someone needs to look at the Sheriff’s office as a “MOB”! A crime is a crime right? Regardless of who commits it.

Our Sheriff says there are no gang problems in Culpeper County. Lets see we have 2 gangs assaults by the “HP” gang, last year 3 “8 MOB” gang members went to prison for sex with a minor. We also have “MS-13” gang members and leaders living in Culpeper, that’s is why the Northern VA. Gang task Force is here in Culpeper every July 4th. But yet, our local officials say don’t worry there are no gangs in Culpeper.

unfortunately I feel sorry for the 4 indivduals who pictures was splashed across the page of the newspaper it seems to me as if they are already convicted which is sad because I have heard multiple things about that gang call HP I am a resident of culpeper for 10 years and I dont believe these HP boys are innocent at all due to I see them alot in red shirt and starting conflicts with others so I doubt if someone just beat on them I think the charges are bogus and there is more to the story I also read that the boys stated that there friends had a conflict with the boys being accused of this crime, but I have been keeping up with these stories and read that four of the boys from the HP gang was arrested on charges of mob assault to another home owner in culpeper which the four boys that are accused of this crime was located when the HP gang came on private property and started conflict and the boys tetified against the HP gang now they are saying that someone harmed them I could be wrong but I doubt it this could be the HP trying to get back at the boys for tesifying and putting the four boys from the HP gang behind bars to me the HP gang is like the M13 gang just in a small county and they need to be stop.

If Morton is the judge, then they will all get off the charges, or be charged to a very mininum unfortunately!

I did not bring my child to this city to live like a hermit but to get away from this type of nonsense. We parents need to come together to see these thugs prosecuted to the fullest. Our kids should not have to be afraid to go out and enjoy their teen years. I will spend every dime that I have until these whatever you want to call them are behind bars.

I don’t understand why it’s taken this long for these 4 adults to be captured for this assault that’s been taken place since July 4th. They have not been disciplined for anything until now. I have watched these kids stand in groups and intimidate these culpeper residents even after you charged the other children with charges yet proved.
Now what is said to the police officers that made it seem like the younger boys were the threat. I believe everyone should be dealt with appropriately but when you see these other kids jumping these children and it takes this long for them to be caught it doesn’t set a good example. They’ve been jumped on numerous occasions and because you don’t have proof but you have a bruises to prove it nothing was done. What if someone would’ve been killed from these attacks? What would be the consequence?
Needless to say I’m very grateful that they have finally been caught I hope justice is given.

“It’s possibly gang-related” yet no evidence is given. When a police official makes a provocative statement, the media should at least ask how they came to that conclusion.
