ORANGE — The man twice convicted of the 2005 murders of Locust Grove residents William Browning and Vicki Truax died early Sunday morning at Central Virginia Regional Jail.

According to sources at CVRJ, jail staff found James Henry Long Jr. unresponsive in his cell shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. They immediately began CPR and rescue squad personnel continued unsuccessful attempts at resuscitation.

The CVRJ sources do not suspect foul play. But as is customary in such cases, the Virginia State Police is conducting an investigation.

Long was convicted for the second time in February after Orange County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Bouton overturned a 2006 guilty verdict. He ruled that the commonwealth had withheld evidence of a plea agreement.

After the second trial, Bouton sentenced Long on May 2 to two consecutive life sentences for the murders and eight years for use of a firearm.

Long’s funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Locust Grove.

I agree with the consspiracy issue i waa an inmate at cvrj in 2002 to 2003 the treat you terrible there i had gaurds kick me in my head and some more stuff. i was pushed down a flight of stairs and then they threw me into segragation for about six weeks after they made accussation that i had assaulted a correctional officer. they just leave you there in segragation and check on you maybe three to four time a day. if the inmate did commit suicide in there i see how the suceeded no one would have known. honestly i think majority of the suicide in that jail are cover ups to foul play i was very suicidal when i was there. the way the treat you would make anyone feel like that. people do bad things but we are still humans we should not be treated like a animal in a kennal i believe they my get treated better. something needs to be done i doubt it will. everone covers for one another around there

This is to the person that commented on July 1, 2008 at 3:14 pm. I am the sister of Vickie Truax an I don’t understand why you think this was a conspiracy!!  One thing is I am sure he conspirared with himseld to kill Vickie and William in one of his drug and drunken stages. Plus he was on so many drugs when they arrested him that his heart and body was probably already wanting to die. You must be one of the ones that need to be in the jail with these ones.  I myself think they took good care of him as at the trails he looked well feed and had a relaxing life sitting in a jail cell for a few yrs having the tax payers take care of him.  And did you think maybe he was really nervous about spending the rest of his life in prison and what might happend to him in there!!You know STRESS does a lot of weird things to your body!! I am sorry he died BUT only because I feel sorry for his MOM!!

Ok, this one is interesting. I do not know if there is anything to it but over the last 10 years there have been several inmates that have passed away at this facility.  One of them I actually knew through a friend of mine.

His death was declared a suicide and he was serving a short sentence.  He was supposed to get out in 3 months or something like that.

It just seems odd that this guy turned up dead shortly after his sentencing.  Do I smell a conspiracy….
