Difficulties in court scheduling have prompted yet another date change in the case of former town councilman David A. Martin, the prosecution said Monday.
A Culpeper Town Council member from 1984 to 2000, Martin, 59, faces two felony embezzlement and five misdemeanor tax fraud charges.
Greene County Commonwealth’s Attorney Ron Morris said Monday afternoon that the General District Court judge in the case requested the latest change due to a scheduling issue. The new court date is Sept. 25 at 3 p.m.
“The judge realized that would work better with his schedule,” Morris told the Star-Exponent in a voicemail.
According to the Virginia State Police, the felony charges stem from incidents in 2006 that were connected with Martin’s Culpeper insurance business.
A court date last week, two dates in May, one in March, and one in February have all been continued or rescheduled, according to court records.
The March date was continued due to a health concern with Martin’s first attorney.
