Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office deputies stand beneath the traffic lights on the Route 3 bridge after the lines were apparently caught by a passing tractor-trailer Monday morning. The bridge was closed until a crew notified by the Virginia Department of Transportation could arrive from Manassas to replace the damaged pole, left, and rehang the lights.

Route 3 has reopened to traffic at the U.S. 29 overpass, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
VDOT spokeswoman Kerrie Humphreys said the road opened around 3 p.m., about four hours after a tractor-trailer hit the wire supporting the intersection’s traffic lights. Crews were called in from Manassas to replace a pole that had been damaged.
A VDOT worker on scene said the tractor-trailer that clipped the wire this morning did not stop, possibly because the driver did not know of the damage.
Humphreys said this is the second time in a 24-hour period the recently installed traffic signal has been hit.

I’ve often wondered why this light doesn’t have a green arrow for traffic turning left onto 29 south, coming from 3 east.
