The Piedmont Environmental Council will host an informational meeting in Jeffersonton Wednesday regarding a recently approved regional power line that will pass through northern Culpeper County.
The meeting is set for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jeffersonton Community Center, 5073 Jeffersonton Road. Warrenton-based PEC plans to share the latest updates on its fight against the high-voltage line, which would stretch from Pennsylvania through Virginia, then on to West Virginia.
Supporters of the line say the region’s power grid won’t be able to meet anticipated demand as early as 2011. But opponents, including PEC, say that alternative energy sources that would negate the need for such an extensive project were not thoroughly explored.
A joint proposal of Dominion Virginia Power and Trans Allegheny Interstate Line Co., the project’s estimated cost is $1.3 billion. For more information about the meeting, call Rob Marmet at (540) 347-2334.
