A Fredericksburg man died Sunday after he crashed his motorcycle into a tree in Orange County, according to the Virginia State Police.

Luis A. Villarreal, 23, was northbound on Route 231 (about 3/10 of a mile south of Route 679) just before 1 p.m. when he ran his 2008 Kawasaki off the road and struck a tree after taking a sharp curve, Sgt. Les Tyler said.

Emergency responders transported Villarreal to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he died at 2:06 p.m. from injuries sustained in the collision.

“Speed appears to be a contributing factor,” Tyler said. “(Villarreal) was wearing a helmet, and alcohol was not a factor.”

Trooper S.E. Nelson is investigating the accident.
