A Mineral man is in jail on three felony charges after an early Monday morning pursuit and crash.

Joseph B. Reid, 38, of the 600 block of Chopping Road, is charged with eluding, hit and run of an attended vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and two misdemeanor charges, refusal to submit to a blood or breath test and driving under the influence, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Jim Fox.

According to Fox, deputy Greta K. Wyant was traveling south on Route 15 in the area of Madison Road just after midnight when she noticed a northbound vehicle approaching on her side of the road.

“She pulled off the road and let it pass, then turned around and attempted to catch up with the vehicle,” Fox said.

When Reid’s 1983 Chevrolet pickup approached the intersection of Route 3 and Orange Road, Fox said Reid’s truck struck a van waiting at the traffic light and kept going, heading north on Rixeyville Road.

“With the assistance of the Culpeper town police, they were able to stop the vehicle at Chestnut Fork Road,” Fox said.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Fox said Reid was jailed on $7,500 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 4.
