A Culpeper man was arrested Thursday on drug charges after a Culpeper County Sheriff's deputy tried to serve a warrant on a previous charge.
Bernard J. Arthur, 47, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance when deputy Roger Jones attempted to serve him with a probation violation warrant.
Sgt. Jim Fox said while Jones found drug paraphernalia and a bag containing a white substance as he attempted to arrest Arthur.
The residue tested positive for cocaine in a field test, Fox said.
Drug possession is a Class 5 felony punishable by one to 10 years in prison and/or a maximum of $2,500 fine.
Arthur is being held without bond in Culpeper County Jail.
He is due to appear in Culpeper General Court on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
In addition to the local warrant, Fox said, Arthur was served with two additional warrants from Frederick and Fauquier counties.
