In an age of economic uncertainty, free movies in the Mount Pony Theater are all the rage. As more and more people are catching on to the classics in Culpeper, it’s becoming the hottest ticket in town.

And so as of 1:30 p.m. Thursday, all seats had already been reserved for Friday night’s 7:30 showing of “Top Hat.“

Saturday’s 2 p.m. matinee screening of “Yankee Doodle Dandy” is fully booked as well.

Didn’t make a reservation, but still want a seat? Arrive in the lobby up to 45 minutes early and get a standby card. If there are any outstanding reservations 10 minutes before showtime, standbys will be admitted in the order they arrived.

Note: the Mount Pony Theater will be closed the week of Thanksgiving, opening again on Dec. 2 with:
It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) at 7 p.m. Reservations for the Jimmy Stewart classic will be accepted starting Nov. 25.

The reservation line will be closed for Thanksgiving on Nov. 27 and 28.

Beyond that, break out the holiday cheer with the following all-Christmas schedule:

Friday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Christmas in Connecticut (1945)

Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. Home Alone (1990)

Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. Scrooge (1970)

Friday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Holiday Affair (1949)

Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. The Santa Clause (1994)

Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. Home for the Holidays: Christmas on Television

Friday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m. A Christmas Story (1983)

Many of the Christmas selections are also expected to “sell out” so reservations are recommended. Call (540) 827-1079 ext. 79994 or (202) 707-9994 no earlier than one week prior to the screening you plan to attend. Reservations from Saturday movies may be made on the previous Friday. The reservation line is open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
