If you live in a flood-prone area, be prepared to take action as storms move into the Culpeper area, warns the National Weather Service.
The flood watch is effective in areas including the counties of Culpeper, Prince William, Stafford, Loudoun, Fairfax and the cities of Manassas, Manassas Park, Fairfax, Falls Church and Alexandria.
Residents should keep an eye on potential flood waters through Friday morning. View the forecast
A low pressure system is moving over Mississippi and will be headed into the area this afternoon. Rain is expected to begin about 7 p.m.
The bulk of the rain is expected to fall between midnight and noon Friday, according to the NWS.
Rainfall shouldn’t be as heavy as it was earlier this week. However, it won’t take as much rain now to flood already saturated soils.
Rain as little as three-tenths of an inch could cause problems, NWS advised.
