DUI stop leads to assault on police officer

A woman who managed to slip out of her handcuffs twice Tuesday is charged with assaulting two Town Police officers and a DUI, according to police reports.

Culpeper police charged Sheila M. Fincham, 38, of the 1400 block of North Main Street, with two felony charges of assaulting police, one count of misdemeanor resisting arrest and driving under the influence.

Officers spotted Fincham driving a 1993 Chevrolet Blazer erratically on Sperryville Pike at 1:15 Tuesday morn-ing. Fincham allegedly failed several sobriety tests. She was handcuffed, but managed to slip out of her handcuffs twice.

According to the report, the third time officers handcuffed Fincham, she refused to get back in the police car and kicked both officers, one in the hand and one in the leg.

Fincham is being held in jail on a $10,000 bond. She will appear in General District Court is Jan. 14 at 8:30 a.m. for arraignment.
