Jeff Bloomer of Culpeper County recently was elected president of the Baptist General Association of Virginia, according to a report in the Religious Herald, a publication of the organization.
Bloomer, a retired educator and member of Culpeper Baptist Church, was elected unanimously and without opposition to serve a non-renewable term.
His election to replace the Rev. Joe Lewis follows the trend of alternating the presidency between clergy and laity, according to the journal.
Other newly elected officers were clerk Fred Anderson of Richmond, second vice president Richard Childress of Franklin and first vice president Tim Madison of Madison Heights.
