Seven military veterans from Virginia’s Seventh District will receive Congressional Veteran Commendations today in Richmond.
U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Richmond, makes the presentation in the Virginia War Memorial’s Hall of Honor Auditorium at 10 a.m. Cantor represents Culpeper and surrounding localities in the House of Representatives.
CVC, in conjunction with the Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress, honors distinguished Virginia veterans and preserves their stories for future generations.
A panel of veterans selected the honorees because of their unique military service. Annual award recipients represent veterans from every major conflict since World War II.
As part of the award, veterans will be interviewed and their stories added to the Veterans History Project at the LOC in Washington, D.C.
Local servicemen being honored today include Major Garland H. Gibbs of Luray, PFC Jesse Thomas Hadder of Louisa and Sgt. Paul Katz of Gordonsville.
Last year, U.S. Navy Chief Pharmacists’ Mate Lester Petermann of Culpeper, a World War II veteran, received the commendation from Cantor.
