A public works employee was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon for bee stings.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Stacy Breeding, a senior maintenance worker, was stung three times after mowing grass at the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
Rescue crews transported Breeding, in his early 30s, to Culpeper Regional Hospital.
He was scheduled to be released at 4:30 p.m.
Public Information Officer Wally Bunker confirmed that Breeding was in fact stung several times.
Bunker added that Breeding told medics he wasn’t allergic to bees.
“He had been stung before,” Bunker said. “Apparently, it was an unusual situation.”
The source, who wanted to remain anonymous, said a swarm of honeybees became agitated after Breeding and another worker happened upon their nest.
The other worker was not injured, but Breeding was foaming at the mouth and very bloated from swelling.
Bunker added that Breeding had to be “revived” at the scene.
The hospital’s spokeswoman was not available for comment.
