It took nearly two hours, but local authorities were able to calm down an 18-year-old Chesterfield County man threatening suicide early Monday.
The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 6:30 a.m. of an individual in the 11000 block of Mountain Run Lake Road making threats of suicide and threats against law enforcement over the phone to a family member in Chesterfield, according to a news release from Sgt. Jim Fox.
The Culpeper Sheriff’s Negotiations Team and members of the Sheriff’s Office and Town Police Joint SWAT team arrived on the scene to assist soon after.
The Negotiations Team established contact with the suicidal man in the residence at about 8:24 a.m. He surrendered to deputies without incident.
The young man was taken to Culpeper Regional Hospital for evaluation and no criminal charges were filed.
The incident is still under investigation.
