Germanna Community College began serving the Piedmont region nearly four decades ago. The Locust Grove campus (above) — the first of three locations — opened along Route 3 in Orange County between Fredericksburg and Culpeper in the fall of 1970. Germanna also has two other locations: the Fredericksburg campus in Massaponax and the Daniel Technology Center in Culpeper, which opened two years ago on McDevitt Drive. Next year, it plans to add a school in North Stafford. David Sam became Germanna’s leader in March 2007, succeeding longtime president Frank Turnage.
