Culpeper County Jail

The jail, which is operated by the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office, is located between West Davis and West Cameron streets, next to the county courthouse. The older section of the jail, built in 1908, has been refurbished and now houses female inmates and has six regular cells and two isolation cells. The newer section, built in 1987, houses male inmatesand contains 24 regular cells, four holding cells, two isolation cells, two observation cells, one medical cell for isolating and treating the sick or injured inmates and a library and classroom for inmates.

Adult Probation and Parole

The office supervises offenders for the Circuit Court of Virginia and the Virginia Parole Board. The staff consists of a chief probation/parole officer, a deputy chief probation/parole officer, seven probation/parole officers, a surveillance officer and three secretaries.

Magistrates

The court's three magistrates share an office in the county jail. Magistrates act when court is not in session to hear complaints and issue warrants for probable cause; hold bond and search warrant hearings; issue emergency protective orders for cases of domestic violence; set and accept bond and issue temporary detention orders.
