The Culpeper Football Association hasn't been around that long, but it's quickly become the largest youth football organization in the state.

Tim Morris and Mark Settle founded the league in 2004. Roughly 225 kids showed up that first season. In 2007, more than 630 kids were involved as players or cheerleaders.

When the league began, games were played at a couple of fields at Yowell Meadow Park. Games have shifted to the Community Sports Complex in recent years, a facility off of Route 666. The CSC is also home to the Culpeper Little League and Culpeper

Soccer Association.

But that's not all Culpeper has to offer in recreational activities. In fact, there's an opportunity to fit almost everyone's needs.

Other athletic opportunities for Culpeper kids include the Culpeper Lacrosse Association, the Culpeper Youth Basketball organization and several youth swim teams.

There are also plenty of chances in Culpeper for adults to stay active. The Adult Flag Football league plays fall and spring seasons and the Culpeper Sport and Racquet Club frequently holds tennis tournaments and clinics.

Culpeper Area Mountain Bike Organization meets at Laurel Valley Park, off of U.S. 522 north of town. The park, which sits on nearly 300 acres of land behind the Culpeper County transfer station, offers the group the opportunity to hit the trails with their bikes.

Yowell Meadow and Mountain Run Lake parks provide local residents a place to walk, relax or toss a football. Yowell Meadow features a paved walking trail, a playground, picnic areas, a skate park, basketball and tennis courts, and more. The park is located along Blue Ridge Avenue near downtown.
