A support group for the Chronically ill meets every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Fauquier Hospital Bistro Restaurant. This is a weekly opportunity for those who are chronically ill to come together for food, fellowship, and encouragement. The Lignum Ruritan Club will have a shrimp dinner on Aug. 2. The dinner will be held at the Lignum Ruritan building, about 10 miles east of Culpeper on Lignum Road just off Route 3, 20489 Gibson Lane, Lignum from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu consists of spiced steamed shrimp, steamed shrimp, baked beans, coleslaw, rolls and beverage.
There will be hot dogs available for children. The cost for all you care to eat is $16 for adults, $8 for under 12 and under 6 free.
The cost for a single trip through the line is $12 for adults, $5 for under 12 and under 6 free.

Childbirth Preparation Class at the Family Birth Center at Culpeper Regional Hospital.
The class will help prepare the expectant mother for the birthing experience, including relaxation and breathing techniques.
The class is taught by FBC Certified Childbirth Instructors.
Choose from a weekend series Aug. 2 and 3 or Sept. 6 and 7 or a weeknight series Oct. 22, 29, Nov. 5 and 12.
Cost is $85 per couple.

Coffeewood Correctional Center, effective Sept. 2, will test our emergency signal monthly. The emergency signal for Coffeewood Correctional Center is a series of three soundings, for five seconds. The first Tuesday of each month at 11:40 a.m. the alarm will sound three times . for approximately five seconds each time.
This method will be utilized to ensure all mechanisms are working properly. The signal can be recognized by its high pitched tone.
In the event of an actual emergency, persons who live in close proximity to the prison can be notified. If you want to be notified, please contact 1-540-829-6483 ext. 6005 and provide your name, address, and telephone number. This information will be kept confidential and used only in an emergency.
Best of the Blue Ridge 2008 bike MS ride will be held September 27 and September 28 in Buchanan, Va. at the Buchanan Fairgrounds. Go to http://www.bikemsva.org or call Catherine Turner at 540-343-0042 for more information. Route lengths include a 25-mile, 50-mile, 75-mile, and 100-mile route on Saturday and Sunday. Registration fee is $40. All participants must raise a mini-mum of $250. All proceeds go to local and national efforts to support those living with MS and to help find a cure.

A benefit dance for Jon Hall, the assistant fire chief at Salem Volunteer Fire & Res-cue, will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Aug. 9. Jon was injured in a motorcycle accident May 17 and will not be able to put any weight on his legs for six months and won’t be able to return to work for at least a year. The dance will feature “Moose’s DJ Service” and will be BYOB with snacks and setup provided. Tickets are $10 for a single and $20 for a couple. Adults 21 and older only.

Tim Janis and Music with a Mission Visits Culpeper: Recording artist, Tim Janis, and his ensemble will perform in concert in Culpeper on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Culpeper Baptist Church. With over a million CD sales, and 4 performances on PBS, composer Janis is known throughout the world for his philanthropic work on behalf of children in need. Through a connection with Culpeper author and counselor, Sharon Beth Brani, Tim Janis has agreed to perform for the Culpeper community gratis. His only request is that those attending bring a pair of new children’s shoes which will be packed and shipped overseas through the Shoes for Orphans program. Seventeenth annual Louisa County Air Show will be held Saturday, September 6, with gates open at 11 a.m. and Airshow from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. This will be held at the Louisa County Airport/Freeman Field. Take I-64 to the Ferncliff Exit #143; follow signs to Louisa County Airport. The Louisa County Air Fair is free admission to the public. Will be accepting a can of food for our local food bank! Special living History events at the Civil War Graffiti House: Graffiti House, 19484 Brandy Road, Brandy Station. Reservations are not required. Donations to the Brandy Station Foundation are welcomed and will be used for the operation and restoration of the House. Free refreshments will be served.
