Aug. 1
Culpeper Babywearers will be held on Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at Culpeper County library.  Join other parents from the Culpeper area to learn to carry your baby in comfort and style.

Culpeper Baptist Church, Culpeper would like to invite children first grade to sixth grade to participate in our sports camp offering quality instruction in 8 sports, Aug. 4 through 8, at Yowell Meadow Park.  The camp runs from 9 a.m. until noon. New Fellowship Christian CThe Nibblins Family Get-Together Gathering (Reunion) will be held on Aug. 2, at the American Legion Hall in Culpeper beginning at noon.  Please come early to take part in the family gathering and activities.

The Lignum Ruritan Club will have a shrimp dinner Aug. 2.  It will be held at the Lignum Ruritan building, about 10 miles east of Culpeper on Lignum Road just off Route 3, 20489 Gibson Lane, Lignum from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu consists of spiced steamed shrimp, steamed shrimp, baked beans, coleslaw, rolls and beverage.  There will be hot dogs available for children. Childbirth Preparation Class at the Family Birth Center at Culpeper Regional Hospital.  The class will help prepare the expectant mother for the birthing experience,  including relaxation and breathing techniques. The class is taught by FBC Certified Childbirth Instructors.  Choose from a weekend series Aug. 2 and 3 or Sept. 6 and 7 or a weeknight series Oct. 22, 29, Nov. 5 and 12.  Cost is $85 per couple. Norman Reunion will be held Aug. 31, at the Rappahannock Park on Route 211 in Washington, Va. A picnic lunch will be served at the pavilion, rain or shine at 1 p.m. All relatives and friends are invited to attend. Bring a covered dish and a beverage. NOTICE: Effective September 2, Coffeewood Correctional Center, will test our emergency signal monthly. The emergency signal for Coffeewood Correctional Center is a series of three soundings, for five seconds. The first Tuesday of each month at 11:40 a.m. the alarm will sound three times for approximately five seconds each time. This method will be utilized to ensure all mechanisms are working properly. The signal can be recognized by its high pitched tone.

In the event of an actual emergency, persons who live in close proximity to the prison can be notified. If you want to be notified, please contact 1-540-829-6483 ext. 6005 and provide your name, address, and telephone number. This information will be kept confidential and used only in an emergency.

Best of the Blue Ridge 2008 bike MS ride will be held September 27 and September 28 in Buchanan, Va. at the Buchanan Fairgrounds. Go to http://www.bikemsva.org or call Catherine Turner at 540-343-0042 for more information. Route lengths include a 25-mile, 50-mile, 75-mile, and 100-mile route on Saturday and Sunday. Registration fee is $40. All participants must raise a minimum of $250. All proceeds go to local and national efforts to support those living with MS and to help find a cure.

Saturday, August 9
A benefit dance for Jon Hall, the assistant fire chief at Salem Volunteer Fire & Rescue, will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Aug. 9. Jon was injured in a motorcycle accident May 17 and will not be able to put any weight on his legs for six months and won’t be able to return to work for at least a year. The dance will feature “Moose’s DJ Service” and will be BYOB with snacks and setup provided. Tickets are $10 for a single and $20 for a couple. Adults 21 and older only.

Families that are income eligible will be enrolled to receive food commodities on a monthly basis. Households that receive Food Stamps or Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are automatically eligible. The Culepper Connector provides drop off and pick up transportation to the church. The 2008 White House Christmas ornament honors the first administration of the administration of President Banjamin Harrison (1833-1901), the twenty-third president of the United States. Serving one term from 1889 to 1893, Harrison was a centennial president inaugurated 100 years after George Washington. Inspired by the Harrison family’s Victorian Christmas tree, this 24 karat gold finished ornament interprets the first recorded tree to decorate the White House. Tim Janis and Music with a Mission Visits Culpeper: Recording artist, Tim Janis, and his ensemble will perform in concert in Culpeper on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Culpeper Baptist Church.  With over a million CD sales, and 4 performances on PBS, composer Janis is known throughout the world for his philanthropic work on behalf of children in need.  Through a connection with Culpeper author and counselor, Sharon Beth Brani, Tim Janis has agreed to perform for the Culpeper community gratis.  His only request is that those attending bring a pair of new children’s shoes which will be packed and shipped overseas through the Shoes for Orphans program.  For more information call Sharon Beth Brani, 829-7923.

Seventeenth annual Louisa County Air Show will be held Saturday, September 6, with gates open at 11 a.m. and Airshow from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. This will be held at the Louisa County Airport/Freeman Field. Take I-64 to the Ferncliff Exit #143; follow signs to Louisa County Airport.  The Louisa County Air Fair is free admission to the public. Will be accepting a can of food for our local food bank! September 13
Special living History events at the Civil War Graffiti House: Graffiti House, 19484 Brandy Road, Brandy Station. Reservations are not required. Donations to the Brandy Station Foundation are welcomed and will be used for the operation and restoration of the House. Free refreshments will be served.
n Sept. 13-14 – Living History Program at the Civil War Graffiti House. The 2nd US Infantry will be camped in Brandy Station.
n Nov. 8 – Antique Appraisal Show at the Civil War Graffiti House, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., professional antique appraisers will provide a verbal appraisal for your treasures. There is a charge of $10 for one appraisal or $25 for three. They will not be appraising stamps or coins. Money raised will support the Graffiti House restoration project, 19484 Brandy Road. The Goldvein Jubilee this year will be held on Saturday, September 13 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. and there will be a car show from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m..  There will also be live entertainment, pony rides, carriage rides, games for kids, face painting, a silent auction, door prizes, a petting zoo, gold panning and food for sale. It’s time to walk for Healthy Babies! 2008 Culpeper March for Babies will be held Sunday, September 28, at 2 p.m. at Yowell Meadow Park.  Come join us for a morning of walking, food and fun! Registration will begin at 1 p.m. and then we walk at 2 p.m. The funds that you help raise will support the March of Dimes efforts to prevent birth defects and prematurity in babies both here and across the world.
