Remembering My Dad: June 12, 7 to 9 p.m. Has your dad died? Do you want an opportunity for remembering him? Come join with others for a very powerful time as we share our memories of our dads. The Jefferson Ruritan Club is in need of donated yard sale items for its Aug. 16, yard sale at the Jeffersonton Community Center. Pick-up service is available for donations of larger items for the yard sale. Indoor or outdoor yard/craft sale spaces are available for anyone who wishes to participate. The Jefferson Ruritan Club is a local community service organization. Proceeds go to scholarships, local public service organizations and other very worthwhile charitable causes. Ruritan Baseball Trip, Brightwood, June 28: The Washington Nationals vs. the Baltimore Orioles in the Nationals new stadium. The price of $55 covers luxury coach transportation, dinner and game. A few seats are still available on a first come-first served basis. Call 948-5416 to make a reservation.

The Humane Society of Culpeper and the Shenandoah Valley Spay/Neuter Clinic are providing a low cost spay/neuter clinic for dogs and cats on June 13, at 8 a.m. Free transportation to the clinic will be provided from the Safeway parking lot located in the Southgate Shopping Center. The costs range from $35 for a male cat to $65 for a female dog. Vaccinations, such as for rabies, or the combination vaccine, DHLLP, are only an additional $8 each. The Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce will hold two ribbon cuttings in June for its member businesses located in Fauquier County. Members of the Public, elected officials, and members of the Chamber are officially invited to attend both events. Each event is free and open to the public, with refreshments served after the ceremonies. Barrel Oak Winery will celebrate Fauqueir’s newest winery, ribbon cutting on June 13 at 3:30 p.m., 3623 Grove Lane, Delaplane for the ceremony and refreshments. GRC Photography and Design will open a new storefront location in Bealeton, ribbon cutting June 19 at 4:30 p.m. at 6384 Village Center Drive, Bealeton.

Mine Run Volunteer Fire Department Fair will take place June 13 and 14 starting at 6 p.m. at the firehouse. There will be food, games, fireworks and lots of fun for all ages. If there are any questions you may call 854-5751.
Special Old Books Booksale: The Friends of the Library will have a sale of old and out-of-print books June 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. and June 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Meeting Room. At 5 p.m. on Friday, Russell Steer, associated with an antiquarian book dealer, will give a short talk on what makes a book valuable, using some of the books we have for sale as examples. The sale will begin immediately after.

The public is invited to attend a Flag Day ceremony and flag disposal ceremony at the American Legion Post 330, located on Route 229 north of June 14 at 3 p.m. Please bring all faded, torn and unusable American flags with you. If unable to attend, drop off your flags at the Post. American flags will be disposed of properly and honorably with the dignity they deserve. Located on Route 229 north of Culpeper.
Blue Ridge Cruisers announce they will have the 11th annual car and truck show on June 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Madison Firehouse, Madison. There will be trophies and all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
Humane Society of Culpeper on June 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will have dogs and cats, kittens for adoption, spay/neuter clinic information, trap-neuter-return (TNR) handouts for feral cat colonies. Colonial Williamsburg Naturalization Ceremony: Saturday, June 14 (Flag Day) all guests are welcomed to honor and celebrate our heritage and the freedom that the American flag symbolizes as 100 state residents become U.S. citizens at the Colonial Williamsburg annual naturalization ceremony. The declaration of citizenship in the 21st century takes on new meaning in light of current events. The event starts at 9 a.m. on the Courthouse Green, weather permitting. in the event of rain, the ceremony will be to Kimball Theatre. Free admission.
The Dent and Pauline West family reunion will be held June 14 from 10 a.m. until dark at the Rappahannock Community Center, Route 211, Washington, Va. A covered dish luncheon will be served at 1 p.m. For further information call 547-2521.
Women’s Ministry Yard Sale at Open Door Baptist Church, 754 Germanna Hwy., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rain or shine.
Berry’s Tire and Automotive, 16448 Brandy Road, Culpeper, repair center is now part of the Precision Tune Auto Care (PTAC) network, America’s leader in auto care service. They will have an open house June 14 featuring a live radio broadcast with 103.1 WJMA from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with free hotdogs, refreshments and prize giveaways. There will be moon bounce for children, along with child safety fingerprinting and car seat demonstrations. In honor of Flag Day, the first 500 people will receive a free hand-held U.S. flag and lots more.

Misunderstood Pit Bull Rescue and the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA will be offering a free educational seminar to pit bull owners June 15. The 2 p.m. class will explain that, with responsible ownership, pit bulls can be wonderful “canine citizens.” The class, titled “Responsi-Bull Parenting,” is free of charge to all wishing to attend. These classes will review the history of pit bulls, dispel myths about the breed, and what owners can do to be conscientious pet parents. The entire pit bull partnership program is called “Pet Bull Hall.” The “Responsi-Bull Parenting,” classes are part of a broader outreach program to generate a safer community by creating responsible owners and adopting out ambassadors of the breed. Art in the Park, a Windmore Foundation for the Arts summer children’s program is offering art classes in June. We still have openings for both weeks of Art in the Park, but choices are going fast. The week of June 16 to 20 is for children ages 6 to 8 and the sessions are one hour. Choices of sessions are 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., 11 a.m. to noon or 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The week of June 23 to 27 is for children ages 9 to 12 and the sessions are one and one half hours long. These session choices are 9 to 10:30 a.m. or 1 to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per child per week for Windmore members and $30 per week for non-members. The county will host a public input session June 18 on the Culpeper County Comprehensive Bike Plan. The session is set for 6 p.m at the Culpeper County Library.
County Parks and Recreation Director John Barrett said they are seeking input from people that utilize bike paths or would like to be involved in the process of long term planning for bike riders in the county.

Families that are income eligible will be enrolled to receive food commodities on a monthly basis. Households that receive Food Stamps or Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are automatically eligible. The Culepper Connector provides drop off and pick up transportation to the church. Sprint Triathlon Training six week program will be held Saturday, June 21 – Aug. 2. Tri training is for men and women, who want to join together for triathlon training. Beacon of Hope for Kids Camp (ages 5 to 9), Monday - Friday, July 14-18, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This is a bereavement camp bringing hope into a grieving child’s life through God’s love. To a child, the loss of a loved one is every bit as real and painful as it is to an adult. But because they don’t have the ability to express their thoughts freely, many issues in children go unnoticed. A Beacon of Hope for Kids Camp allows children to talk openly without judgment and to find comfort and healing. The program includes games, art projects, literature, movies, songs, Bible stories and other activities. Facilitated by Karen Angell and Chaplain Liz Danielsen. RSVP is necessary. The Bug Box is coming to the library! Come find out answers to questions like: How much nectar does a bee have to collect to make a tablespoon of honey? Girls of all ages are invited to Culpeper Area Weekend Girl Scout Camp at Verdun Adventure Bound in Rixeyville, June 27-29 and July 12-13, 2008. You’ll learn some outdoor skills while working on weekend projects that include a swim party, hiking, and outdoor cooking. There will be a fun evening campfire program as well as a special closing ceremony.
Session 1 will run from 7 p.m. Friday until 3 p.m. Sunday. Session 2 will run from 9 a.m. Saturday until 3 p.m. Sunday.
Girls in grades K-6 in the 2007-2008 school year may attend as campers. Girls in grades 7 and above may be Camp Program Assistants.
You don’t have to be a Girl Scout to attend Girl Scout camp! The cost to attend as a camper is $60 for Session 1 and $50 for Session 2, plus a $10 fee for non-Girl Scouts. Scholarships are available.

Culpeper Regional Hospital is hosting a weeklong Healthcare Career Exploration Camp for rising 8 and 9 graders. “Camp Med” will run from July 14 through July 18, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Students will get a behind the scenes look at healthcare and our hospital operations. The Camp is free, thanks in part to grant funding provided by the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association. Special living History events at the Civil War Graffiti House:
Graffiti House, 19484 Brandy Road, Brandy Station. Reservations are not required. Donations to the Brandy Station Foundation are welcomed and will be used for the operation and restoration of the House. Free refreshments will be served.

Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department, Brandy Station, announces it is the time of the year to be making plans for the annual Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department fundraising fair. This year’s fair will run from July 30 to August 2. The fire department is once again looking for young ladies interested in representing the fire department as their honorary fire chiefs. The honorary fire chief contest is broken down into two separate categories, the junior ladies are from 8 to 14 years old and the senior ladies are from 15-21. The person who sells the most fundraising raffle tickets for the fire department determines the winners. Each young lady finishing the contest is awarded a percentage of the amount of tickets they sell. The two winners are crowned the senior and junior honorary fire chief and represent the fire department in area parades during the year. The crowning takes place during the carnival. It’s time to walk for Healthy Babies! 2008 Culpeper March for Babies will be held Sunday, September 28, at 2 p.m. at Yowell Meadow Park. Come join us for a morning of walking, food and fun! Registration will begin at 1 p.m. and then we walk at 2 p.m. The funds that you help raise will support the March of Dimes efforts to prevent birth defects and prematurity in babies both here and across the world. Empowering Culpeper USDA Food Commodity Distribution has release their distribution schedule for Culpeper: October 18; November 8; December 20 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church, 740 Old Brandy Road, Culpeper. Families that are income eligible will be enrolled to receive food commodities on a monthly basis. Households that receive Food Stamps or Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are automatically eligible. The Culepper Connector provides drop off and pick up transportation to the church.
