Culpeper County Parks and Recreation is hosting a Community Yard sale May 19 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Floyd T. Binns Middle School. Spaces are still available, but must be received by May 17. Call 727-3412, ext. 4.
Hokie Spirit Memorial Ride June 2-3. Ride from Sperryville to Virginia Tech. There is a $20 donation per bike. Ride starts at Rappahannock County High School (take Rt. 211 west from Warrenton). Registration begins at 6 a.m. Group leaves at 8 a.m. sharp. "The Cellar" in Blacksburg will have lunch available. All proceeds returned to Hokie Spirit Memorial. This year's Brandy Station Volunteer Fire Department fundraising carnival will run from July 25 to 28. The fire department is once again looking for young ladies interested in representing the fire department as honorary fire chiefs. The contest has two categories: juniors (ages 8 to 14) seniors (15 to 21.) Winners are determined by ticket sales. Each young lady finishing the contest is awarded a percentage of the amount of tickets they sell. The two winners represent the fire department in area parades during the year as junior fire chiefs. America World Adoption Association will be hosting a free adoption seminar titled "The Spirit of Adoption," from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. May 19 The seminar will be at Open Door Baptist Church, 754 Germanna Hwy, Culpeper. For more information visit awaa.org or call 888-ONE-CHILD.

The Artists of Windmore are currently exhibiting original hand painted works of wall art. The locations of the exhibits are the Culpeper County Library and the Depot. The Artists of Windmore, daytime group, meet regularly at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday mornings. The location changes so please call Julia at 825-4210.
The Artists of Windmore, evening group, meet at 7:00 p.m. at the Depot on the second Monday of every month.

FRIDAY
The Lake of the Woods Square Dance Club will host a plus-level dance in the LOW Great Hall, following a 35th anniversary dinner for which advance registration is required. "Remembering My Mom." Has your mom died- Do you want to have an opportunity to remember your mom- Come join with others from 7 to 9 pm. The Equine Rescue League's 16th Annual Spring Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Churchland Farm, located just south of Leesburg on Route 621 will provide an opportunity to meet horses available for adoption. Anyone with an interest in horses is welcome. Activities include pony rides, a parade of horses, a used tack sale, yard sale, bake sale and raffles. Admission and parking are free. "Do caterpillars really wear wave caps- Does the white rabbit really keep time prisoners- And what time is it anyway-" The Culpeper County High School drama department's advanced acting class will present an original comic-fantasy "Wake Up, Alice!" tonight only, beginning at 7 p.m. in the CCHS auditorium.
Admission is $5, adults and $4, students and children. After the show, there will be a drawing for two $25 gift certificates to Ace Book Store in Culpeper.
The public is invited to come see this special spring presentation it will be the strangest trip you take this year!
The Welcome Waggers therapy dogs are coming back to Culpeper County Library for another fun-filled Saturday morning of reading! Children who are able to read are invited to come and choose a book to read to a dog. The program will begin at 10:30. Sessions are free, and there is no pre-registration. Richardsville Volunteer Fire and Rescue will be having a Mother's Day breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. The menu will be pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, fried potatoes, applesauce, biscuits, all you can eat. $6 a person, children under 5 eat free.

Infant and Toddler Connection of Rappahannock Rapidan: Thousands of children in Virginia have some type of developmental delay. The regular monthly meeting of the Culpeper County Human Services Board, Social Services Board and the Head Start Board will be at 1 p.m. in the 2nd floor conference room of the Social Services building located at 219 East Davis St., Culpeper. From 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. a Stress Relief and Healing Energy Session will be held at Hearthstone School, 11576 Lee Highway in Sperryville. There will be a "Sustainable Development in Virginia" presentation on Thursday May 17 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Expo Center. The presentation will feature the principless of planning that show the next step for Low Impact Development in Virginia. St. Luke's Lutheran Church will be having their Children's Consignment sale on Friday, May 18, and Saturday, May 19. Appearing for the second time, Josh writes about daily life in heart-wrenching songs to which we can all relate.
