TODAY  
The Lake of the Woods Square Dance Club will host a plus level square dance in the Clubhouse Great Hall from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.  Our caller for the evening will be Charlie Shoemaker.  Price is $5 per person and attire is red, white and blue in honor of Memorial Day or regular square dance clothes.  Please contact Handy at 972-5855 for further information.

SATURDAY
Culpeper Aglow Community Lighthouse will meet St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 115 N. East St., Culpeper at 10 a.m. This is open to all women. Free babysitting is provided. Call 825-6976.

Monticello's Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic Plants will conduct its 15th annual open house at its Tufton Farm headquarters from noon to 4 p.m.  Visitors will be able to take informal tours of the CHP nursery, including the propagation greenhouses, stock beds, and display gardens, and see the rose, iris, and other flower collections in full bloom. This event is free and open to the public.

The Culpeper Downtown Farmers Market is open every Saturday now through October from 7:30 a.m. until noon at the East Davis Street parking lot in beautiful downtown Culpeper.  Visit the market for locally grown produce, flowers and much more. 

Richardsville VFD and Rescue will serve a fried chicken dinner from 5 to 7 p.m.  Cost of the dinner is $10 for adults, $6 for kids 6-12. Children 5 and under eat free.  For more information call 399-1122.

Z's NuLook Salon at Meadowbrook Shopping Center (next to Petersens Jewlers) is having a cancer drive during the month of May. Today there will be a bake sale and yard sale in front of the salon from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. This is in honor Shane Breeding, and Donna Jenkins, and in memory of Carolyn, and Christine Thornton.     

SUNDAY
Culpeper Cruisers will host its fifth annual car and truck show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dominion Skating Rink. For more information contact Bill at 829-8422.

Brandy Station Foundation will present the second in a series of Sunday Lectures featuring Bob Lapidus speaking on "Southern Enigma: The Unwavering Unionism of John Minor Botts, 1802-1869," beginning at 2 p.m. under the old oak trees at Auburn plantation, near Brandy Station.  This event is free and for anyone interested in the history of the U. S. Civil War.

MONDAY
(MEMORIAL DAY)
Country Cookin is offering free meals to all military personnel today at any of their 16 restaurants. The offer applies to active, reserve, and retired military personnel who can show proper military ID.

Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board and Area Agency on Aging transportation services will not operate in observance of Memorial Day.

Korean Veterans Association Chapter 12 will host the annual ceremonies marking Memorial Day at the flagpole area in front of the Lake of the Woods Clubhouse in Locust Grove at 11 a.m. Visitors should be seated by 10:50 a.m. Marine Corps Captain Christopher Earley will address the group. The public is invited.

The annual Memorial Day Service at Culpeper National Cemetery will be held at 11 a.m. This year's guest speaker will be Colonel Thomas Doetzer, USMA Reserve. Reverend Harold Smth of the Free Gospel Church of Christ will deliver the invocation and benediction. Call 825-0027 for more information.

Culpeper and Warrenton holiday refuse collection schedule is as following: Tuesday, Monday and Tuesday refuse collection, cardboard and newspaper recycling pickups; Wednesday, regular refuse collection; Thursday, regular refuse collection; Friday, regular refuse collection. We would like to remind you that carts need to be set out by 6:30 a.m. on your day of collection.

WEDNESDAY
National League of Junior Cotillions will hold a parents' informational meeting at 7 p.m. at the Country Club of Culpeper. NLPC is an etiquette and social dance program for middle-school students. Registraiton is now open for classes beginning in September. For questions call  349-1478 or email .

THURSDAY
Whether you knit or crochet, you are invited to meet with the '"Culpeper Close Knits
" at 10 a.m. on the last Thursday  of every month at the Culpeper County Library.  Our members assemble 6-inch x 9-inch knit or crocheted rectangles to create afghans which are given to wounded veterans at Walter Reed Army Hospital.  For further information, please call Dot at 825-3980.

Care Café is open from 10 a.m. to noon. It's a place for those who are discouraged from illness, bereavement, caregiving or have a a family member or loved one deployed in the military. If you are in need of fellowship, encouragement and hope through conversation with others, we invite you to come for a cup of coffee, tea, light refreshments and a place to sit and chat.
