Not-so-slim pickins
Come enjoy bluegrass and gospel at the Salem Pickin' Party Feb. 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Salem Fire and Rescue Hall on Route 522 northbound. Featured performers include The Country Troubadours, Sowego Bluegrass Band and The Sheads Family Gospel Band. 50/50 raffle and food sales will benefit the Salem Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Paying for college-
The Jefferson Ruritan Club will award its annual $1,000 Tommy Rosenberger Memorial Scholarship to a high school graduate or other student toward college, technical school or other continuing education expenses. Application required for consideration, call 937-5682. All applications must be received by the Jefferson Ruritan Club by March 15.
Home cookin'
Hungry for a homemade breakfast- The Brightwood Ruritan Club will host its Big Country Breakfast March 1 from 7 to 11 a.m. at the clubhouse off U.S. 29 at Route 607. This all-you-can-eat breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, gravy, biscuits, fried apples, coffee and orange juice. $6 for adults and $4 for children 11 and younger. All profits benefit scholarships and community service projects. Call 948-4026.
They're after me lucky charms
The Hopewell United Methodist Church in Lignum is hosting a St. Patrick's Dinner March 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu will feature corned beef and cabbage, oven-fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, deserts and beverages. $10 for adults, $5 for children 11 to 6, younger than 6 free.
