Feb. 5-April 10
AARP Tax-Aide scheduling: Feb. 5 through April 10, 2008, AARP Tax-Aide will be providing free federal and state (Va. only) tax preparation for low to medium income individuals, with an emphasis on those over 60.  Taxes will be prepared on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m.  You do not need to be a member of AARP or retired to take advantage of this free tax preparation service.  The Culpeper Career Resource Center, located at 210 East Stevens Street (above the Full Circle Thrift Shop) is again the location for this year.  Appointments are required and may be made by calling 727-1055, ext. 406.  Everyone is reminded they will need to bring social security cards, along with a picture ID and a copy of last year's taxes, in addition to current year W-2s, all 1099s, and any other tax documentation.  All counselors are volunteers and trained and certified by IRS.

 Feb. 7 -March 6
Transformation Weight Loss Sessions held at the Culpeper United Methodist Church (changed from Culpeper Library) March 6 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Session 7: March 6, "Self-Control and Fasting." Each session will include an introduction to a written message, discussion and sharing, prayer, and recipes. A reading assignment and brief written homework will also be offered. It is being lead by Joy Rollins, who has lost more than 100 pounds by God's power, and she will share the lessons she feels God has taught her through His Word on this 18-month journey. March 1-22
March 1 — 22 from noon to 2 p.m.: Join us and our friend the Easter Bunny for free hayrides at the Kelly's Ford Equestrian Center. Come and enjoy a spring hayride with the Easter Bunny. March 6
Healthy Culpeper Senior Adult Committee will meet March 6 beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Culpeper County Library.  The meeting is open to the public and senior citizens are encouraged to attend.  For more information contact Jenny Biche at 825-7615 ext. 225.

The public is invited to an opening reception for ceramic artist Debra Giller, March 6 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the gallery at The Arts Center In Orange. Giller's work will be on exhibit March 6 - April 19.  The Arts Center in Orange is located at 129 East Main Street, Orange, 672-731; hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mon. - Sat. and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Life Center of Fauquier Health System, 419 Holiday Ct., Suite 200 Warrenton, will be having a hearing loss and hearing aids seminar on March 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  $10 registration fee to be applied to any future purchase of $25 or more. Call 341-7112 to reserve your space!

High School Orientation: Culpeper County Public Schools will be hosting a rising freshmen parent/student orientation beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6 in the Culpeper County High School auditorium. Parents and students will be able to hear important information regarding the high school experience. In addition, CCHS will also host a course of studies fair in the cafeteria immediately following the orientation. Parents and students will be able to talk to core area and elective area teachers about their course offerings. We hope to see rising freshmen and their parents there. Fauquier Hospital, announces a "Senior Workout" for people 50 and up. It is jointly sponsored by the hospital and Chestnut Forks Athletic Club.  To be held at Chestnut Forks Athletic Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11 a.m. to noon through March 27. $35 per month for 2-day/week class; registration required. On June 4 — 6, Chapter 1885 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) at Lake of the Woods is sponsoring a trip to Brandywine Valley. We will visit Longwood Gardens, Harrahs Chester Casino, Chaddsford Winery Estate, Winterthur Gardens and Estate, and Hagley Museum and Garden. The trip will also include a vintage train ride and picnic lunch. The tour package includes roundtrip motor coach transportation, two nights at Brandywine Inn, breakfasts, and admission to all attractions. You do not need to be a member of NARFE to join us. The cost is $387 per person, double occupancy. An initial deposit of $87 received in March will hold your reservation. The remaining payment may be divided and received by April and May 1. March 6-7-8
The St. Luke's Players at St. Lukes Lutheran School will be presenting "Wonka, Jr." on March 6-8.  The show begins in the St. Luke's gym at 7 p.m., but tickets are available beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The school will also be featuring its school-wide Art Show.

Warrenton Aquatic and Recreation Facility (WARF): Fauquier Hospital System will be instructing group exercise classes at the new recreation center — Core Strength, Cycle and Sculpt, Indoor Cycling, Total body Bar, Energy Meridian Yoga, Essentila Pilates, and Pilates. March 7
The next exciting offering of Stage Alive Community Concert Association is the Brass Roots Trio.  This talented group will appear March 7 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Culpeper County High School. With three instruments they play with virtuosity, passion and charisma.  With such brilliance the Brass Roots Trio of internationally acclaimed artists makes three instruments sound like a small orchestra. The Brass Roots Trio has created a new sound that transcends traditional musical boundaries.  Come hear their musical trek through classical, baroque, jazz, ragtime, folk and gospel styles.  Thus their repertoire contains hundreds of ingenious original arrangements. Culpeper Christian Women's Club is sponsoring a "Let's Be Dazzled" Brunch on March 12 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Peppers/Best Western of Culpeper.  The special feature will be jewelry making with Cathy Buckley.  Judy Blevins of Wake Forest, N.C. will be the speaker.  All ladies of the community are invited.  Cost: $7.50 inclusive.  For reservations call Thelma at 937-4069 or Linda at 937-3612 by March 7.

Wayside Theatre Board of Directors is celebrating the World of Art by holding "ART and LEISURE— A Live Auction" March 7 beginning at 8 p.m. at the Winchester Country Club on Senseny Road, Winchester. This event is open to the public and welcomes all and encourages attendees to consider purchasing a full table of eight. Wayside Theatre is located in Middletown on Route 11, Main Street, just north of the intersection of I-66 and I-81.

March 7-8
A Reiki 1 Training Workshop will be held on March 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. and March 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Both sessions are inclusive in the workshop.  Pre-registration is required as space is limited.  The cost is $145. March 8
Breeden Family Fundraiser:  Spaghetti dinner and bake sale March 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. Snow Date March 15 from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Amissville United Methodist Church located on Route 211 in Amissville.  The cost is adults $10, children age 12 and under $5, children age 3 and under free! Lignum Ruritan Club, located at the intersection of Gibson  and Lignum roads in Lignum,  will be having a shrimp dinner March 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. $12 for adults (one time), $16 adults (all you can eat); $8 children, 12 and under.  Hot dogs available too.

Dorothy Skelton Scholarship Patron Art Show: Tickets are now on sale for the Dorothy Skelton Scholarship Patron Art Show and Reception at the Cornershelf Bookstore, Petersen Jewelers and Village Frameworks and Gallery. Patron tickets for the catered reception and art show guarantee that you go home with an original piece of artwork are $100. Guest tickets, for attendance only, are available for $25. The art show will be March 8 at the Depot in Culpeper with a reception and unique sale. At the reception, patron ticketholders purchase write their name on their ticket and all tickets go into a drawing.  All two-dimensional artwork is framed and ready for hanging.  All proceeds from this sale go to the Dorothy Skelton Art Scholarship Fund. Mine Run Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat ham dinner March 8 from4 to 7 p.m. at the Mine Run Volunteer Fire Department, 31077 Oak Plank Road, Mine Run, Locust Grove. The menu is ham, green beans, potatoes, baked apples, rolls, dessert, coffee, tea and fruit punch kool aid for the kids. The cost will be adults $8; kids 6 and under, $4. The Welcome Waggers Therapy Dogs are coming back to the Culpeper County Library for another fun-filled Saturday morning of reading! Children who are able to read are invited to come and choose a book to read to a dog. The program will be held March 8 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sessions are free, and there is no registration. The Culpeper Minutemen Chapter of the NSDAR will meet March 8 starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Culpeper County Library.  Presentation of the annual Good Citizen Awards by Mrs.Thomas L. Eastham. The Annual Good Citizen Awards are presented to High School Seniors with the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. One student from each of the following schools will be honored:  Rappahannock High School, Culpeper High School, Madison High School and Wakefield High School, Huntley. Spotsylvania Family YMCA is having a parents meeting for all those interested in joining its summer swim team March 8 starting at 5 p.m. This is open to members and non-members.  This meeting will give you all the information you need to know about being a part of a summer swimming team; what is involved, meet schedules, practice schedule and prices.  371-9622, ext. 2034.

Fauquier Hospital, Warrenton, will be having a First Aid Class/Adult/Infant and Child CRP/AED class on March 8 at the Hospital Tower, Sycamore Room A, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost will be $65. March 9
Friends of The Partnership for Warrenton Foundation will be closing the bridge on our first "The North invades the South" wine dinner on March 9. We'll be enjoying a good old Mason-Dixon tussle as Pennsylvania's Best Winemaker goes head to head with some of Virginia's finest. It'll be a blind taste test, and the food is paired for Northern tastes versus Southern classics. Wear your Yankee blue or Confederate gray, and call for reservation. Starting at 4 p.m. with an hour long meet and greet, and then at 5 p.m. the battle rages. Six fabulous courses, 12 incredible wines, and an evening you will long remember. March 10
Artists of Windmore Monday Evening Group: If you are an experienced or budding artist and are interested in joining a diverse group which shares an interest in art come to the Artists of Windmore Evening group gathering.  Meet artists from the area, share ideas and techniques, work on collaborative projects, join in critiques and learn from demonstrations. March 11
Fauquier Hospital will be having a class on "Look Good … Feel Better", on March 11, starting at 6 p.m. at Fauquier Hospital in the Sycamore Room A, Hospital Tower. This is free, registration is required, call 349-0588. A free two-hour hands-on program to help women overcome the appearance-related effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Patients must be undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment to participate.

 March 11-14
The A.G. Richardson Elementary School Music Department is hosting a special event for students March 11-14. Paul Corbiere will be coming to work as an artist in residence with grades 3-5 throughout the week with performances March 14. March 12
Fauquier Hospital offers free blood pressure screenings and medication list cards once a month. The next screening will be March 12 from noon to 2 p.m. at Life Center, 419 Holiday Court, Suite 200, Warrenton. Free, no registration necessary.
     
March 13
Hospice of the Rapidan offers free training for people interested in becoming hospice volunteers starting March 13 and March 14 and ending April 3, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Hospice of the Rapidan's offices, 1200 Sunset Lane, Culpeper. No prior experience is required and the program is free of charge. Interested people should contact Ruth Pavlik, 825-4840 to sign up, and must complete an application process prior to the beginning of class.
