The Culpeper Downtown Farmers Market will open for the season Saturday from 7:30 until noon at the East Davis Street parking lot. The Graffiti House will host Mark Leepson April 27 from 2 to 3:15 p.m. to speak on Jubal Early’s threat on Washington, D.C. This is the story of the Battle of Monocacy in July of 1864, when 12,000 veteran Confederate troops led by Early fought and defeated 5,800 Union troops four miles south of Frederick, MD, then marched to the outskirts of Washington, D.C. to invade the North’s capital. $5 donation suggested. Get healthy
You’re invited to the 10th annual “For a Child’s Health” day at Culpeper County Library Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Along with health education from 20 family-focused agencies, there will be a moon bounce, face painting, fingerprinting and finger casts, a helicopter landing, a fire truck and ambulance, refreshments and much more.
Laugh it up
All those 50 and older are welcome to The Laugh Academy today at 2 p.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church. Learn how laughter and humor has a profound affect on the body, mind and soul. The church is located at 415 South Main St., across from the 7-Eleven. Call 825-1376.
Buy other people’s junk, wash your car, save a life
There will be a community yard sale April 26 starting at 7 a.m. at 518 Second St., which will benefit the American Cancer Society. Contact Ronny Hare at Mt. View Lizard’s Relay for Life team at 825-2727. The Mt. View Community Church Relay for Life team is sponsoring a carwash April 26 from noon to 4 p.m. at Heritage Auto Care, 810 North Main St.
The Youth Ministry of Rising Zion Baptist Church in Winston will be sponsoring a carwash at Wal-Mart April 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds go to the Youth Ministry.
No horsing around
The Culpeper Abate of Virginia will host a horseshoe tournament April 27, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m. The tournament will be at the American Legion Hall, 14222 Rixeyville Road. Cost is $10, partners are luck of the draw, double elimination; singles and pick your own partner competition after. There will be prizes for the winners. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Legion Child Welfare Fund. Call 937-3924.
