Laugh it up: If laughter is the best medicine, maybe comic Huggy Lowdown can wipe out the flu in Culpeper. He will perform tonight for the Alex Scott Culpeper Youth Basketball Fundraiser Comedy Show at Club XS at 9:30 p.m. Lowdown has appeared on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and northern Virginia's Big Doug will also perform. Tickets are $25, with $5 from each ticket going toward the Culpeper Youth Basketball fund. Call Culpeper Youth Basketball president Greg Ward at 547-9188 or 222-1047 or Club XS (16284 Brandy Road) at 825-3984.

A sip to remember: Be among the first to taste Gadino Cellars 2006 Antiche Viti Reserve Cabernet Franc at The Frenchman's Corner Feb. 23 from noon to 3 p.m. at 129 E. Davis St. Cheeses, pate and mousse will be paired for the tasting together with Gadino Cellars Premium Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sunset wine. Open to everyone 21 and older.

Craving live music-: Culpeper's the place to be. Check out these bands playing around town this weekend: Tonight hear Smash at The Pub at Hazel River (825-5744), Possum Ridge at Brandon's Place (829-1025) or David Leckie Gilmore at Pelham's Pub at The Inn at Kelly's Ford (399-1779). Feb. 23 catch Street Legal at The Pub, Jim and Holly Lawrence at Brandon's Place or Craig Dodson at Pelham's Pub.

Shop for a cure: Spend a few hours shopping at The Depot Sunday and support cancer research at the same time. Breast cancer survivor Janna Coppage's Relay for Life team, K.O. Cancer, is hosting an open house benefit fundraiser Feb. 24 from 2 to 5 p.m., featuring area vendors and consultants. Pay $1 at the door and have your name entered in a raffle to win door prizes. E-mail for more information.

Art for smarts: The Windmore Foundation for the Arts is hosting its annual Dorothy Skelton Scholarship Patron Art Show Feb. 24 through March 8 at The Depot. The show culminates March 8 with a reception where patron ticket purchasers are entered into a drawing to pick a piece of artwork to own. Patron tickets, which are $100, are limited to guarantee everyone receives a piece of art. Guest tickets for attendance only are $25. All proceeds go to the Dorothy Skelton Art Scholarship Fund. $1,000 scholarships are awarded to graduating high school students interested in pursuing visual, performing or literary arts. Visit www.windmorefoundation.org or call 547-4333.

Look for more to do this weekend in today's In & Around, included in the print edition of the Star-Exponent, available at your local newsstand.
