PRINCE: Oh Jason Castro, I’m going to admit that I’ll miss you. I’ll miss your ever-present grin, your goofy answers (when a viewer asked the contestants’ biggest challenge, you answered “Just the brain being dead.”), but I won’t miss you butchering two of my favorite songs. Now, everyone knows I’m a big DC backer, but I’ve contended all along that he won’t make the finals. So I have a contingency plan — Syesha. She’s flown under the radar most of the show, but she’s started to come out of her shell the past few weeks. This week she channeled Tina Turner with a rousing rendition of “Proud Mary.” That was enough to win me over. You go girl!

QUEEN: I was very happy to hear that America has said “sayonara” to Jason Castro.
I’ll admit, Jason won me over with those beautiful blues. I never thought dreadlocks could be sexy, but damn. Jason pulled it off.
That being said, he was not good enough to win, ever. David Cook deserves the title — he’s one of the most innovative contestants the show has seen — though I don’t think it’ll happen.
And I never expected Syesha to be the final woman, let alone make it this far, but she’s proven that she deserves a spot in the finals. Keep it rollin’!
As for David Archuleta, his voice just makes me melt. He can “stand by me” any day.

KING: Dude, like I have to write 150 words again on American Idol? I “dred” that. My brain.. Uma, uma, um, um, uma…
Sleepy-eyed semi-comatose Jason Castro destroyed not one, but two, classic hits: Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff” and Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man.” It was sad to see and unbearable to listen to. Glad my remote has a mute button.
Syesha is peaking at the perfect time. She’s definitely brought her “A game” the last three weeks. David Cook’s down week was still better than most contestants’ good weeks. David Archuleta keeps knocking them out of the park. Since rockers can’t seem to make the finals, I see Archuleta and Syesha battling for the crown.

DIVA: Can I get a Witness? Bo Bice was fierce on the Idol stage. Now there’s an American treasure.
As for Castro, well, I have no words, except to note that my usually demure sister dropped many f-bombs in reaction to his butchering of Bob Dylan.
My man David Archuleta, on the other hand, brought tears to my eyes with “Stand By Me,” one of my favorite songs.
He’s breathless on results night? I’m breathless every time he opens his mouth to sing.
Syesha deserves her place in the top three after that hot “Proud Mary” performance. Girls just want to have fun and that girl can sing!
As for the other David, dude, you have a future in the business, but you’re not as good as Duran Duran. Sorry.

MARGARET: Well, we said goodbye to Jason Castro last night.  I think he was a little relieved to be going.  Simon didn’t have to be so mean with his criticism.  I’m sure it’s hard for a young person to stand there before the whole world and hear someone ridicule them.  David Archuleta proved again that he deserves to be the American Idol.  I think David Cook has the edge on Syesha.  From now on out, they’d better bring all they have. Little David is ready for them. He’s the best. I’m confident all three of them have a career in the music field.

Every week, one thing is
certain in the Star-Exponent offices — American Idol dominates the water cooler convo every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning. So we thought we’d share our thoughts on the show this year, and invite the public to share your views online. So sit back and get ready to argue with our panel of judges — Mr. Big (Rob Humphreys), the self-proclaimed king of useless knowledge (Ray Finefrock), the
self-proclaimed clown prince of
useless knowledge (Jeff Say), the DVR Diva (Allison Brophy Chamion) and the karaoke queen (Catherine Amos.)
